Mountain Commerce Bank (MCB) is a state-chartered, FDIC-insured, privately held financial institution serving East Tennessee with branches in Unicoi, Washington, and Knox counties. MCB’s focus is simple: providing our customer with hometown service and smart technology. To do this, we have taken the technology, lending ability, and financial services that make big banks attractive, and developed them into a hometown organization with main street values, community responsibility, and excellent personal service for every single customer who comes through our doors.
Mission and Values
It is our mission to grow and prosper, building long-term relationships based on top-quality service, high ethical standards, and core-funded, safe and sound deposits. These core values are fundamental principals upon which MCB bases its operations and decisions: Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, Communication, Reality, Accountability, Teamwork, and Consideration. We believe that these values provide the appropriate framework to structure an organization that will meet the service needs of its customers, the performance requirements of its shareholders, and the regulatory standards of its authorities.
Our Beginnings
MCB’s roots dig deep into the mountain south, originating in the small town of Erwin, TN, near the Tennessee North Carolina border. Erwin National Bank, chartered in 1910, had served Unicoi County for nearly 100 years, and had always been the market leader in the area, surviving the Great Depression and the dynamic, changing economy of our country over the decades. Recognizing Erwin National’s financial leadership in the area and potential for expanded market advantage, Mountain Commerce Bancorp, a Federal Reserve Bank holding company, acquired Erwin National on September 1, 2006, changing the name to Mountain Commerce Bank.
Development
MCB recapitalized Erwin National and began to expand in Unicoi County, and then into Johnson City and Knoxville, growing the Bank from $83 million in assets to more than $300 million, in just over a year. This strong growth was the result of MCB’s experienced consumer and commercial bankers building and maintaining relationships throughout the Bank’s market areas. Currently, MCB has five locations in Erwin, Johnson City, and Knoxville.
Why Choose MCB?
MCB is unique in that we are a community bank, dedicated to hometown customer service, backed by the technology and service offerings of a big bank. As residents of the communities we serve, the staff of MCB wants to develop financial relationships with professionals, small businesses, and individual consumers who are best suited to our products and services. While many opportunities exist for any bank to acquire quick deposits and solitary accounts, MCB wants to focus its efforts on developing and maintaining relationships with customers who share the same goals for relationship banking. We believe that the best way to help our customers is to listen and show them that we can assist in nearly every aspect of their financial lives, and we have the technology to meet their needs. Only in this mutually supportive environment can a bank truly give hometown service.
